We think everyone can learn to write well.
Skaldris started as a small, stubborn bet: that the gap between a Band 5.5 essay and a Band 7.5 one isn't talent — it's reps. So we built the drill we wished existed.

Most IELTS Writing resources teach it as memorisation — learn a template, learn a vocabulary list, hope it fits the question on the day. Examiners see through that quickly, and it caps how high a score can go.
What actually raises the score is being able to say the same idea in different ways, quickly and under time pressure. That's a skill you build through practice, not a list you memorise — so that's what Skaldris drills, one sentence at a time.
We built it free and public because that's who it's for: the wider community of learners preparing for this exam, not just our own students.
Not everyone starts at the same point, so Skaldris doesn't either. The Foundation track targets Band 5.0–6.5: short, everyday sentences, one simple rewrite move at a time, with every answer explained step by step — built for learners who are just beginning, not already fluent. Practice it consistently and you build the exact reflex examiners reward at that band. We won't promise you a number — no honest tool can, since a real exam is graded by a human examiner on a full essay — but we will promise the reps that get you there.
Skaldris is a real platform, run like one — every drill sentence, model answer, and technique note is written and checked by a teacher who has actually graded this exam.
Behind Skaldris is a small, two-person team: an IELTS Writing teacher based in Ho Chi Minh City, and a developer based in the Philippines. She shapes the content and the teaching, he builds and runs the platform.
A skald was an Old Norse poet — someone paid to shape language well, out loud, on the spot. We liked that better than another generic “-ly” or “-fy” app name.

How we build this
One skill, not a syllabus
Most tools try to teach the whole exam at once. We picked the single move that unlocks the most band score fastest — paraphrasing — and built everything around drilling it to reflex.
Explain the why, not just the score
A number without a reason doesn't change how you write next time. Every result names the technique — synonym swap, nominalisation, passive voice — so the lesson travels with you.
Built for the learner behind the screen
Bilingual by default, free by default, no login wall between you and your first sentence. We know what it's like to read English faster than you can write it — which is why the Foundation track starts at Band 5.0–6.5, not B1.
